Jal Parava was a song used for a performance by the Jal Folk Theatre Company at festivals, particularly at The Goddess Shows. The Romani Gypsy words "Jal Parava" translate as "the awakening" or "transformation of the soul in accordance with the cycle of the sun". A bit of a mouthful, but that's the gist. The word "Parava" meaning "change" or "transformation", if linked with Jal (journey of the sun) can mean spiritual transformation. The words Ravnos, Kam, Shon, Puv, translate as Sky, Sun, Moon, Earth in the Rom culture. These are the ancestral spirits we call upon when we wish to awaken and find our own personal transformation.

It isn't the done thing in the English language to go about shouting that you want to transform according to the cycle of the sun! But here, we're talking about ancient values regarding an ancient language - and values are something we all need more of. We shout out the names of the Greater Ancestors to honour them and invite their qualities to enter our lives.
